Port of Shenzhen
Western Shenzhen’s port districts serve shipping on the Pearl River estuary, with container terminals and bulk cargo facilities forming part of the city’s wider maritime network. Shekou and Chiwan are established waterfront districts in this western cluster.
Container operations connect the manufacturing and trading economy with overseas markets. Chiwan also handles bulk commodities such as grain and fertiliser, giving this side of the port a cargo mix that extends beyond manufactured goods in containers. Road, rail and water connections support movements between terminals and their hinterland.
Shenzhen’s port facilities are spread across several coastal districts. The western estuary terminals therefore need to be distinguished from Yantian on the city’s eastern coast, even though both contribute to the wider Shenzhen port system.
