Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation was officially founded on December 28, 1972, and is headquartered in Keelung, Taiwan. Yang Ming operates across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Australia, supported by over 241 global offices in 87 countries and regional centers in the U.S., Panama, Germany, Greece, and Singapore. As of early 2025, Yang Ming operates approximately 98–101 container vessels, with a total capacity of around 711,000 TEU, placing it 10th worldwide among container carriers by capacity.

The fleet includes high-capacity 14,000-TEU “W-class” ships, built between 2015 and 2019 by Hyundai Heavy Industries, CSBC (Taiwan), and Imabari Shipbuilding. Yang Ming reduced its average CO₂ emissions per TEU-km by 57.4% from 2008 to recent years, surpassing IMO’s 2030 goal of a 40% reduction. In March 2025, Yang Ming announced the purchase of three 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready containerships, slated for delivery between 2028–2029. These vessels are part of a broader fleet optimization strategy, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and future-proofing operations amid changing global trade dynamics.

To broaden its service network, Yang Ming collaborates with global shipping partners and has invested in terminals across Taiwan (Keelung, Kaohsiung), the U.S. (Los Angeles, Tacoma), and Europe (Antwerp, Rotterdam).
