Port of Bilbao
Bilbao’s main cargo facilities occupy the outer harbour around Santurtzi and Zierbena, where the Nervión estuary meets the Bay of Biscay. This waterfront brings several specialised terminals together within a port closely connected to the surrounding industrial region.
Containers and individually handled cargo use quays around Santurtzi, while dedicated installations at Punta Lucero serve oil and liquefied natural gas. Dry bulk and other general cargo activities broaden the range of materials passing through the harbour.
Rail connections link the port with inland freight terminals, complementing road distribution. The combination of specialised cargo berths and onward transport gives Bilbao a role in industrial supply chains as well as the movement of manufactured and containerised goods between maritime routes and inland markets.
