Fremont: fishing and public boat access on the Sandusky River
Fremont’s waterfront is centred on the Sandusky River, where recreational boating and fishing shape the local waterside setting. Spring runs of walleye and white bass draw anglers to the stretch between the State Street and Miles Newton bridges. The Miles Newton area provides public access close to downtown.
Farther along the river, Sand Docks has a public boat ramp and riverbank access at the end of North Street and Sand Road. Its position behind the water treatment plant provides an alternative to the rocky floodwall in the downtown area.
Darr-Root Fishing Access offers another public launch on Walnut Street. Developed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with local authorities, the site includes parking for vehicles and trailers beside the river.
