Tartous: bulk and general cargo in a modernising harbour
Tartous handles a mix of industrial materials, containers and vehicles in a harbour protected by extensive breakwaters. Its commercial basins provide a maritime outlet for trade across the Eastern Mediterranean and neighbouring markets.
General cargo facilities handle commodities including grain, timber, metals and clinker. Dedicated phosphate silos support an important export trade, while container areas and a roll-on/roll-off yard serve boxed goods, vehicles and machinery. Warehouses and technical facilities support these separate terminal operations.
DP World began operating the commercial port in November 2025. Its redevelopment programme covers channels, quays, equipment and storage, with improvements being introduced in stages. The existing mixed cargo business therefore continues alongside a longer-term programme of investment, rather than depending on facilities that have all already been rebuilt.
