Port of Galle
Galle is a natural harbour with a regional commercial role and facilities for visiting yachts. Its position near the ocean routes off the island’s southern coast connects a historic trading waterfront with present-day maritime activity, including smaller commercial vessels and pleasure craft.
The fortified town occupies a peninsula forming the western side of the harbour. Working port facilities and yacht accommodation lie within the wider bay, giving the waterfront both a practical transport function and a close relationship with the old city.
Galle’s appeal to visiting crews comes partly from this combination of harbour and town. Maritime services support vessels calling along the coast, while time ashore connects yachting activity with local businesses and the historic urban landscape surrounding the port.
