Port of Tuticorin
Tuticorin’s V. O. Chidambaranar Port combines container trade with the bulk cargo needs of southern industry. Thermal coal, fertilisers and fertiliser raw materials are established parts of its traffic, alongside petroleum products and a range of other goods.
The principal cargo harbour is enclosed by long breakwaters extending into the Gulf of Mannar. Within it, container berths, coal facilities, multipurpose quays and an oil jetty provide separate handling areas for different cargoes. Coal conveyors form part of the equipment linking vessel discharge with handling ashore.
This variety gives the port a dual supply role. Container operations connect manufactured and packaged goods with maritime services, while the bulk terminals receive materials for industrial and agricultural use. The harbour brings these trades together through specialised facilities rather than relying on one cargo stream.
