Pasni: a fishing harbour awaiting rehabilitation
Pasni’s harbour is closely tied to the fishing economy of the Makran coast. It was developed to give local boats a landing and berthing facility, connecting catches brought ashore with the traders and transport services that move fish towards markets.
Persistent siltation has restricted the harbour’s usefulness, and restoration remains a central issue for the fishing community. The provincial fisheries policy for 2025–2035 specifically includes rehabilitation of Pasni Fish Harbour within a wider programme for maintaining landing sites, jetties and related infrastructure.
That distinction matters to its present role: planned rehabilitation is not evidence of a fully restored harbour. Pasni’s economic significance remains rooted in fishing livelihoods and the need for dependable landing access, rather than in the large commercial-port projects sometimes discussed for the surrounding coast.
