Lagos port: cargo handling beside Apapa’s industries
Lagos Port Complex at Apapa combines cargo terminals with industries that use imported raw materials. Flour, sugar and salt production within the port area gives the waterfront a direct connection to manufacturing, alongside its role in moving goods to and from the wider Lagos market.
The Nigerian Ports Authority oversees the complex under a landlord model, with private companies operating terminals. These include APM Terminals, ENL Consortium, Apapa Bulk Terminal and Greenview Development Nigeria. Their different activities support container traffic, bulk commodities and other cargo.
Road, rail and water links connect the quays with inland movements and nearby facilities. Apapa forms one part of a broader harbour system that also includes Tin Can Island. Distinguishing the individual terminal is therefore useful when interpreting a Lagos port call or cargo destination.
