Port of Lome
Lomé combines a gateway role for inland West African markets with container transfers between shipping services. Its Gulf of Guinea harbour is enclosed by breakwaters and brings several types of maritime trade into a developed waterfront east of the city centre.
Container terminals operate alongside facilities for general cargo, bulk commodities, vehicles and tankers. Dedicated quay cranes and container yards support the transfer of boxes, while specialised berths accommodate cargoes requiring different handling methods. Refrigerated container connections are also part of the container terminal infrastructure.
Lomé Container Terminal serves both coastal transhipment and inland trade, including connections with Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. These functions involve different journeys: some cargo changes ships at the port, while other consignments leave the waterfront for inland markets. Together they make Lomé a meeting point for regional sea and land transport.
