Port of Kamsar
Kamsar is closely tied to the export of bauxite from the inland mining region. On the Rio Nuñez estuary, the port forms the seaward end of an industrial chain linking the mines at Sangarédi, a railway and processing facilities beside the waterfront.
At Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée’s Kamsar plant, arriving ore is crushed and dried before shipment. A conveyor carries the prepared material to the mineral quay, with sampling and weighing equipment between the processing stage and vessel loading. Stockpiling provides another part of the shore-side handling system.
The port also has an established commercial quay serving other cargo activity. Its layout reflects the contrast between dedicated mineral handling and more general waterfront work. Kamsar’s main significance, however, lies in connecting the inland bauxite industry with the ocean transport used to reach overseas customers.
