Port of Buenaventura
Buenaventura’s main commercial waterfront occupies the northern side of Isla Cascajal within a broad Pacific inlet. It combines container handling with conventional and bulk cargo facilities, making the port an important link between ocean transport and businesses in the interior.
The regional port company’s terminal provides specialised areas for containers, solid bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo. Quays, storage areas and cargo-handling installations are arranged along the island waterfront, with different facilities serving the requirements of each commodity rather than a single uniform terminal operation.
Other terminals occupy separate sites within the wider bay, adding to Buenaventura’s maritime infrastructure. The distinction matters because individual facilities have their own layouts and operating arrangements. The island-side port brings several cargo trades together in one established waterfront, connecting shipping with the onward movement of goods through the region.
