Port of Xiamen
Xiamen’s port extends across the bay, linking terminals on the island with commercial waterfronts on the mainland. Container shipping is a central activity, supported by quays for conventional and bulk cargo within a port system serving the surrounding manufacturing and trading economy.
Dongdu and Haitian form established cargo areas on the island side, while mainland terminals around Haicang provide another major part of the container network. Dedicated quays, stacking yards and handling equipment allow these districts to manage different flows of freight within the same harbour system.
The bay also contains passenger facilities, giving the wider port a role beyond the movement of goods. Its geography is important to understanding the operation: Xiamen is a collection of connected waterfront districts, each with its own terminal layout, rather than one continuous quay serving every type of vessel.
