Polynesia Line Ltd. is a specialised ocean carrier founded in 1967 with a historic focus on connecting the South Pacific islands to the U.S. West Coast and other Pacific trade lanes. Headquartered in San Rafael, California, the company developed its niche by serving relatively remote island markets such as Tahiti, American Samoa, Samoa and Tonga, linking them with major U.S. ports like Long Beach and Oakland.

Originally established to move tuna and related cargoes out of Pago Pago, American Samoa, Polynesia Line gradually expanded its operations, adding port calls around the southern Pacific and adapting to changing trade patterns in the region. Over the years it formed strategic vessel-sharing alliances and, in 2013, became fully owned by China Navigation Company, the deep-sea shipping arm of the Swire Group, while retaining its management team and brand identity within broader Pacific services.
