FESCO Transportation Group (often simply “FESCO“) is a major Russian transport and logistics group whose operations span shipping, rail, port handling and intermodal services. The company’s roots trace back to April 25, 1880, when an agency of the Russian Volunteer Fleet (‘Dobroflot’) was set up in Vladivostok—marking the origin of what would become FESCO. The company was once the Soviet Union’s largest transport company in the Asia-Pacific region, operating hundreds of vessels and thousands of personnel at its peak, making it a significant player in maritime logistics of its time.

One of FESCO’s distinguishing features is its emphasis on the Russian Far East as a strategic hub: the group owns and operates the Commercial Port of Vladivostok and maintains terminals and intermodal links that leverage the growing trade flows between Russia and Asian countries. Their asset portfolio is diverse: it includes sea-vessel operations, container and rolling stock fleets, intermodal rail connections and terminal infrastructure such as dry ports and coastal sea lines.

In recent years the container fleet managed by the group has surpassed 200,000 TEU, and its inventory of rail fitting platforms exceeded 15,000 units — milestones achieved as part of a strategy to modernise and expand its intermodal capability. FESCO has opened a new office in Dalian, China (2025) to strengthen direct container and rail links between northeast China and Russia, reflecting its shift toward greater regional connectivity and logistics sovereignty.
