Port Sonoma
Port Sonoma is a marina site near the mouth of the Petaluma River, where the river meets San Pablo Bay. Its history is associated with recreational boats and marine services, within a shoreline landscape of tidal marshes and river channels.
The site is no longer described as an operating marina in state environmental records. Caltrans also recorded substantial silting when assessing it for possible barge access, rejecting that use because the waterway could not accommodate the proposed loading and unloading activity.
A public notice issued in August 2026 proposed removing most floating docks from the marina’s three basins and repairing the public access trail. That proposal concerns maintenance of the existing site; it does not establish the reopening of berths or a new cargo service.
