Port of Portland
Portland combines container shipping, fishing and passenger activity on the northern side of its harbour at Casco Bay. The International Marine Terminal provides a cargo gateway on the working waterfront, while other piers serve fishing vessels, ferries and cruise visitors.
Container operations connect the port with North Atlantic shipping services. Nearby refrigerated storage supports cargo that needs temperature-controlled handling between arrival by sea and onward collection, linking the terminal with food and other distribution businesses ashore.
The wider harbour extends into the Fore River and includes a distinct industrial waterfront in South Portland, where petroleum facilities are concentrated. Cargo terminals, passenger areas and fishing wharves therefore form separate parts of the harbour’s economy, sharing maritime access while serving different transport needs.
