Port of Kansas City
Kansas City’s river port connects regional industry and agriculture with the Missouri River barge network. Its public terminal at Woodswether provides a waterfront transfer point for materials that can move between river transport, rail wagons and lorries.
Cargoes handled there include fertiliser, grain products, steel, salt and construction materials. Cranes, mobile loading equipment and conveyors allow different types of loose and packaged freight to pass across the quay. A rail connection adds another option for moving goods beyond the riverfront.
The port’s role is closely tied to the surrounding inland economy. Agricultural inputs and industrial materials can arrive by barge before continuing overland, while outbound consignments enter a waterway system connected to the Mississippi farther downstream.
