Port of Columbus
Columbus’ river port serves the industrial economy of Mississippi’s Golden Triangle. Operated through the Lowndes County Port Authority, it sits on the Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway and provides a transfer point between barges, rail wagons and road vehicles.
Facilities include general cargo and bulk docks, a loading conveyor, enclosed warehouses and open storage areas. The port handles materials such as steel coils, aluminium, timber, chemicals, sand and gravel, reflecting the needs of manufacturers and construction-related businesses.
Rail connections and access to nearby highways extend its reach beyond the waterfront. This combination allows goods arriving by barge to continue overland, or inland consignments to enter the waterway network, giving Columbus a freight role centred on industrial materials and regional distribution.
