Port of Izmir
Izmir’s commercial harbour at Alsancak occupies the northern waterfront of the city at the head of Izmir Bay. Its piers provide a maritime outlet for the surrounding urban and industrial economy, with container handling forming an established part of the port’s business.
The harbour includes multipurpose cargo facilities as well as passenger berths used by cruise vessels. This allows freight operations and maritime visitors to use different sections of a port closely integrated with the city’s waterfront.
Alsancak’s role extends beyond the immediate quays: it links regional production and distribution with sea transport through the bay. The commercial harbour is distinct from the older inner waterfront, giving Izmir separate spaces for its cargo activity, passenger arrivals and other urban maritime uses.
