Chios: passenger shipping beside the town waterfront
Chios port forms part of the town’s eastern waterfront, facing the coast around Çeşme across the strait. Its quays serve passenger and cargo vessels, placing maritime transport close to the town’s streets, businesses and everyday activity.
Breakwaters enclose the harbour, while the southern marina area accommodates fishing boats and yachts. These smaller craft share the wider waterfront with the passenger and commercial functions that support travel and the movement of goods to and from the island.
The port is also an urban public space, with pedestrian areas alongside working quays. This close relationship between harbour and town gives Chios a mixed character: an island transport facility, a base for local boats and a waterfront used by residents and visitors.
