Jizan: a commercial harbour on the southern Red Sea
Jizan’s established commercial port serves the southern Red Sea coast with facilities for general cargo, containers and roll-on/roll-off traffic. Breakwaters enclose a large harbour basin containing several quays with different handling roles.
Bulk cement and other unpackaged commodities form part of the port’s cargo mix. Separate coastal tanker facilities and offshore oil moorings extend the maritime activity beyond the main basin, so liquid cargo does not depend on the same berths as conventional freight.
The port’s location gives the surrounding region access to seaborne supplies and coastal trade. It is distinct from the newer industrial port at Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries, whose specialised terminals occupy a different site farther along the coast.
