Leixoes Port

Leixoes provides the Porto region with a commercial harbour between Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira. Breakwaters protect its outer waters, while a sequence of docks extends inland, accommodating container shipping, bulk commodities and general cargo.

Specialised areas handle petroleum products and gas, and separate container terminals serve boxed freight. Other quays accommodate materials such as steel, grain, cement and timber products, with cargo handling distributed between the northern and southern sides of the dock system.

The port also has passenger facilities for cruise ships, adding a visitor role beside its industrial and commercial activity. Its position close to Porto links this varied waterfront with the surrounding urban region: importers, exporters and cruise passengers use different terminal areas within the same enclosed harbour.
