Eemshaven: offshore wind logistics within an energy port
Eemshaven is an energy port where marine logistics sit alongside power generation and gas infrastructure. Offshore wind is a prominent activity: the harbour supports the construction of wind farms at sea and the subsequent maintenance of their turbines.
Cargo facilities are spread across four harbour basins, with quays, jetties and a ramp for vessels carrying wheeled freight. Logistics businesses use this waterfront for transferring goods between ships and inland transport, giving the port a commercial role beyond its neighbouring energy installations.
An LNG terminal, handling liquefied natural gas, has operated here since 2022. Submarine electricity connections with Norway and Denmark add a further dimension to Eemshaven’s energy links. Together, the port and its industrial surroundings bring several stages of energy supply into one coastal location.
