Port of Wilhelmshaven
Wilhelmshaven has two distinct working environments: an inner harbour behind sea locks and an outer port along the Jade. The inner basins provide a controlled water level for quay operations, while specialised terminals extend the wider port’s commercial activity along the estuary.
Cargo facilities handle bulk materials, conventional goods, refrigerated cargo and project shipments. The outer waterfront includes the JadeWeserPort container terminal and installations associated with petroleum, coal, chemicals and gas. These sites serve different industries and should be understood as separate parts of the port estate.
Energy cargo has long shaped Wilhelmshaven’s industrial role, while containers and other freight broaden its connection with inland markets. The combination of enclosed dock basins and estuary terminals allows different cargo-handling arrangements to coexist within one maritime centre, linking storage and processing activities with shipping.
