Port of Umm Qasr

Umm Qasr provides a maritime entry point for consumer goods, industrial supplies and project cargo. Its northern port area includes Basra Gateway Terminal, where container operations sit alongside facilities for general cargo and roll-on/roll-off traffic.

The terminal’s cargo work includes steel pipes, land rigs and other equipment used by the oil and gas industries. These shipments give the port a role in supplying infrastructure projects as well as handling the boxed freight of everyday trade. Different handling arrangements accommodate individual heavy items and containers within the same terminal business.

North Port occupies the side of Umm Qasr Basin, reached through the tidal waterways connecting the port with the Gulf. This inland coastal setting brings ocean shipping to a specialised cargo waterfront, from which imported goods and equipment continue towards customers and project sites ashore.
