Port of Suva
Suva is a maritime distribution centre for the capital and the surrounding Pacific island trade. Its natural harbour receives container ships, conventional cargo vessels and passenger traffic, bringing overseas supplies into the urban economy and the wider island network.
Kings Wharf forms the principal commercial waterfront, supported by cargo-handling equipment and warehouses. Walu Bay provides an adjoining berth, while Princess Wharf serves smaller regional vessels and fishing activity. This arrangement allows different types of shipping to use distinct parts of the harbour.
The port’s role extends beyond the transfer of goods across a quay. Storage and local distribution connect arriving consignments with businesses ashore, while regional shipping links Suva with other island communities. Passenger calls add another use to a harbour whose central function remains the movement and exchange of maritime trade.
