Sidi Kerir: the Mediterranean outlet of the SUMED pipeline
Sidi Kerir forms the Mediterranean end of the SUMED oil pipeline system, linking tanker movements with crude arriving overland from Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea. Its offshore loading facilities and coastal storage tanks give it a specialised role in the movement of oil between producing regions and refining markets.
Crude is held in a tank farm before being pumped to tankers through offshore mooring buoys. These installations allow transfer without a conventional cargo quay. The terminal can also receive crude from ships for storage, onward shipment or domestic supply.
Separate facilities handle low-sulphur diesel through a dedicated buoy, sea pipeline and storage tanks. Sidi Kerir’s activity therefore centres on liquid cargo, pumping and storage, with the pipeline connection shaping its place in the wider oil transport network.
