Port of Damietta
Damietta is a Mediterranean cargo port with a canal connection to the Nile’s inland waterway system. Containers, bulk commodities and general cargo move through its harbour, linking overseas trade with agricultural and industrial supply chains ashore.
The port’s cargo base includes grain, fertiliser and cement, while export activity serves products from the surrounding economy. The barge canal provides a waterborne connection inland alongside the port’s marine terminals, adding another route for moving suitable freight beyond the coastal waterfront.
Container handling remains an important part of Damietta’s development. The Damietta Alliance terminal began commercial operations in February 2026, adding a new operating facility to the port. Its opening complements the established bulk and general cargo activities within the wider harbour complex.
