Port of Cartagena
Cartagena’s container terminals serve both overseas trade and transhipment within a sheltered Caribbean bay. Cargo enters or leaves the harbour through the Bocachica approach, while the terminal system connects ocean services with onward shipping and inland distribution.
SPRC and Contecar are the two terminals operated by the Port of Cartagena Group. They handle import, export and transhipment containers, with terminal processes covering the receipt, storage and dispatch of cargo. Goods destined for inland markets continue beyond the waterfront through land transport connections.
Transhipment gives Cartagena a role beyond serving its immediate hinterland: containers can change ships before continuing to another port. Alongside that transfer business, the terminals provide an outlet for exporters and an entry point for goods entering domestic supply chains.
