SM Line Corporation is a South Korean container shipping company established in 2016 following the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping. Headquartered in Seoul, the company has rapidly emerged as a significant regional carrier, ranking among the world’s top 20 container lines with a fleet capacity exceeding 150,000 TEU.

SM Line specializes in intra-Asian trade lanes, connecting key ports in China, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent. The company also operates strategic services to North America and Russia’s Far East, including dedicated Russia Far East Express (RFX) and Korea China Express (KCX) routes. A distinctive operational feature is its focus on the niche markets of Korea-Vietnam and Korea-Indonesia trade, where it maintains competitive weekly services.

In 2023, SM Line reported revenues exceeding $2.5 billion and handled approximately 1.2 million TEUs. The company operates a mixed fleet of owned and chartered vessels, including thirteen 8,000 TEU container ships deployed on trans-Pacific routes. Unlike many competitors, SM Line maintains direct control over terminal operations at Busan New Port through its subsidiary, SM Terminal.
