Port of Arica
Arica is a Pacific gateway for inland trade across the Andean region, with a particularly important role in cargo moving to and from Bolivia. Its harbour links ocean shipping with overland freight routes that extend well beyond the immediate coastal economy.
Breakwaters protect the cargo waterfront, where containerised goods and other freight pass between vessels, terminal areas and onward transport. The port’s infrastructure supports different cargo types, allowing packaged shipments and materials handled outside containers to use the same maritime gateway.
Road haulage connects the quays with inland origins and destinations, making coordination between ship operations and truck movements central to the port’s role. Arica therefore serves both local trade and the international transit chains of a much wider hinterland.
