Port of Mongla
Mongla combines riverside cargo berths with anchorages used for transferring goods to smaller vessels. Its position on the Pasur River makes the waterway itself part of the port system, connecting the working harbour with the approaches from the Bay of Bengal.
The cargo mix includes containers and general freight, alongside bulk materials such as cement and clinker. Specialised industrial jetties and liquid gas facilities occupy other parts of the riverfront, so the wider port area contains several distinct cargo operations.
At the anchorages, lighters carry cargo between larger ships and shore facilities. This transfer arrangement complements direct handling at the jetties and is an important feature of Mongla’s river-based operations. The port’s physical layout therefore includes both fixed waterfront infrastructure and working areas within the river.
