Marfret, a French shipping company headquartered in Marseille, traces its origins back to 1951 when it was founded as “Marseille-Fret” by Claude Vidil and Pierre Giraud. Over time it evolved into Marfret, specialising in container‐liner services that combine direct port calls with a sharp focus on niche trade corridors rather than ultra-large vessels.

Today Marfret serves almost 100 ports around the globe and operates integrated maritime, river and multi-modal transport services: container shipping, refrigerated (reefer) cargo, inland waterway links and break-bulk/multipurpose vessel activity. The company emphasises “direct calls” and fixed schedules, aiming to offer greater reliability and responsiveness compared with larger carriers that often rely heavily on transshipment hubs.

Marfret retains a fleet of ships owned and managed in-house, showing the company’s commitment to operational control and long-term investment in its vessels. For example, its “Douce France — A new generation” container ship, delivered in the 2020s, was designed with environmental performance in mind and advanced features such as an X-BOW® hull and 600 reefer plugs, tailored for its South America trade-lane.
