Port of Morehead City

Morehead City specialises in bulk commodities and cargo handled individually rather than exclusively in containers. Reached through Beaufort Inlet, its terminals sit close to the Atlantic entrance and connect ocean shipping with inland rail and road transport.

Phosphate, fertiliser, grain and wood chips form part of the bulk trade. Other consignments include rubber, lumber, metal products and aircraft parts. Covered warehouses protect cargo that needs shelter, while paved open areas accommodate goods suited to outdoor storage and handling.

Norfolk Southern provides rail service, complementing road access towards the interstate network. The combination of quays, storage and inland connections allows shipments to move between vessels and industrial customers in different forms, from loose commodities to packaged materials and larger manufactured components.
