Cairnryan: a ferry connection to Larne
Cairnryan’s southern ferry terminal links Loch Ryan with Larne, carrying passengers and freight across the North Channel. P&O Ferries operates the route, making the port a transfer point for road traffic travelling between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Roll-on/roll-off facilities allow vehicles to move directly between the terminal and the vessel. The operation combines tourist travel with commercial freight, so the waterfront serves both private motorists and the supply chains carried by road vehicles.
A second ferry terminal, Loch Ryan Port, lies farther north and serves Stena Line’s Belfast route. Although both are associated with Cairnryan, they are separate ports with different operators and destinations. The southern terminal’s role is specifically tied to the Larne crossing.
