Port of Incheon
Incheon links Yellow Sea shipping with the Seoul metropolitan market through several distinct harbour areas. Containers, vehicles, grain and conventional cargo use a port system shaped by a large tidal range and by the development of specialised terminals along the coast.
The Inner Port lies behind lock gates, which separate its working basin from the changing sea level outside. Its quays handle vehicles, grain and general cargo, with transit sheds and open storage supporting movement ashore. Other port districts provide additional commercial and passenger facilities.
Container handling extends beyond the older basin to facilities including Incheon New Port. This distribution of activity is important to understanding the harbour: vessels approach a network of terminals rather than one common quay. Together, the port areas support the capital region’s trade and its maritime passenger connections.
