Paita: refrigerated exports from farms and fisheries
Paita’s cargo trade is closely tied to the farms and fisheries of the northern coastal region. Refrigerated containers carry products such as grapes, avocados, blueberries, fish and shrimp, making temperature-controlled exports a distinctive part of the port’s work. Fertilisers and grain are among the imports serving its hinterland.
The harbour lies at the head of Paita Bay. Its terminal combines a dedicated container quay with multipurpose facilities for other cargo, allowing agricultural exports and industrial supplies to use the same coastal gateway through different handling arrangements.
Piura is the port’s immediate economic hinterland, but its reach extends to other northern regions, including Lambayeque and Cajamarca. For growers and seafood processors, the connection between inland collection, refrigerated storage and ocean shipping is central to the port’s commercial value.
