Port of Hakata
Hakata connects the Fukuoka urban region with overseas trade and passenger routes through a series of terminals around the bay. Its waterfront combines container logistics, conventional cargo and passenger shipping, giving the port both an industrial and a city-facing role.
Island City and Kashii Park Port contain the main container facilities, with quay cranes and yard equipment supporting the transfer between vessels and land transport. Logistics warehouses and a fruit and vegetable market near Island City connect the terminal area with distribution businesses ashore.
Other wharves serve passenger and commercial traffic, including international ferry journeys and cruise calls. The port is therefore spread across several working districts rather than concentrated at one quay. Its layout allows freight handling and passenger arrivals to serve different needs while sharing the maritime gateway to the surrounding regional economy.
