Meulaboh: coastal trade and a role in palm oil delivery
Meulaboh is a coastal trading port serving West Aceh, with its harbour on the western side of Sumatra. Its commercial role sits alongside the area’s separate ferry facilities, reflecting the different ways the coast connects local communities and businesses with maritime transport.
The port also appears in the commodity market’s physical delivery network. In its 2024 report, the commodity futures regulator included Meulaboh among the ports designated for physical handover of crude palm oil. That designation identifies a role in commodity trading without defining the size of individual shipments or the port’s handling capacity.
Ship and cargo administration forms another part of its operation. Meulaboh was included in the transport ministry’s 2021 rollout of Inaportnet, the online system used to coordinate port formalities and services.
