Port of Reykjavik
Sundahöfn is Reykjavik’s principal cargo harbour, bringing container shipping and freight storage together on the city’s eastern waterfront. Its terminals serve importers and exporters in the capital area, with road connections carrying goods between the quays, warehouses and inland destinations.
Eimskip’s facilities include container cranes, dry warehouses and chilled and frozen storage. The terminal also accommodates roll-on, roll-off traffic, in which wheeled freight moves between ship and shore, and provides facilities for packing and unpacking containers.
These different storage environments support both ordinary merchandise and cargo that needs temperature control. Sundahöfn belongs to a wider urban port system that also receives cruise passengers, while the Old Harbour occupies a separate waterfront nearer the historic centre.
