Port of Halifax
Halifax’s natural Atlantic harbour supports a container gateway with terminals at the south end of the city and at Fairview Cove. PSA Halifax operates these facilities as Atlantic Hub and Fairview Cove, linking ocean services with inland freight transport.
Terminal infrastructure includes container storage, refrigerated cargo provision and connections for moving freight by road and rail. The port also accommodates wheeled and heavy cargo, so its commercial activity extends beyond standard containers. Different handling areas support these distinct shipment types within the harbour.
Rail access is central to the port’s reach beyond the immediate urban market. Alongside truck movements, it enables imported and exported goods to pass between marine terminals and inland distribution networks, while transhipment connects cargo with onward sea services.
