Meratus Group is one of Indonesia’s oldest and most significant maritime and logistics organisations, with roots tracing back to its founding in 1957. Over more than six decades, the company has evolved from a regional shipping operator into a major integrated maritime-logistics provider connecting the Indonesian archipelago and Southeast Asia.

At its core, Meratus operates a wide range of container liner services, linking Indonesia’s major ports such as Surabaya, Jakarta and Makassar with domestic and international destinations. Its extensive network supports trade flows for general cargo, containerised goods and specialised shipments across more than 40 routes in the region.

Beyond conventional liner activities, Meratus engages in other parts of the maritime supply chain, including freight forwarding, depot operations, inland transport and terminal services. Affiliate companies under the Meratus umbrella support logistics functions such as cargo consolidation, trucking, warehousing and even coal transport and offshore supply activities — reflecting a broad service portfolio.

An interesting aspect of Meratus’s heritage is its role as a pioneer of dedicated container services in Indonesia. In 1990 the company launched one of the country’s first scheduled container liner networks, reinforcing its position in a relatively protected domestic market where few private firms have secured long-term operating licences.

Meratus also maintains a significant physical presence in the region through its own terminal and depot infrastructure, including facilities in Jakarta and Surabaya that contribute to cargo handling capacity in Indonesia’s busiest gateways. In 2024, the company introduced new tonnage — such as the MV Meratus Cilacap — to expand service coverage and operational flexibility.
