Ras Tanura: oil exports through coastal and offshore terminals
Ras Tanura is an oil export port built around tanker loading facilities on and offshore from a narrow peninsula. Its layout reflects the movement of liquid cargo through pipelines, with offshore loading platforms extending the port beyond the shoreline. Crude oil and refined petroleum products give the harbour its principal commercial role.
North Pier is connected to the peninsula by a causeway and trestle and is designated for petroleum products. Farther offshore, the Sea Island facilities form a separate loading complex linked by walkways, with submerged pipelines carrying cargo between land and the berths.
Aramco’s terminal documentation lists crude grades, condensate, fuel oil, diesel, kerosene and naphtha among the cargoes handled across the terminal. Tanker anchorages and controlled approaches are integral to this specialised export infrastructure.
