Koror: island freight through Malakal’s commercial harbour
Koror’s seaborne freight is handled through Malakal, on the neighbouring island southwest of the city centre. The commercial harbour supplies the surrounding urban economy through a sheltered lagoon reached by channels across the outer reef.
Malakal’s terminal services and stevedoring are provided by Belau Transfer and Terminal Company. Its work includes handling goods at the port and arranging delivery to customers, linking arriving ships with businesses and receiving premises on land.
A separate fisheries dock lies beside the commercial port, serving the unloading of fishing vessels and the preparation of catches for export. These facilities have distinct purposes within Koror’s wider waterfront: the commercial terminal handles freight for local distribution, while the neighbouring fishing facility supports the seafood trade.
