Kvinesdal: public and industrial quays at the head of Fedafjorden
Kvinesdal’s port facilities lie at the inner end of Fedafjorden, where a municipal quay stands beside Eramet’s industrial waterfront. The public quay has land behind it for temporary cargo storage and direct access to road 465, close to the E39 corridor.
The adjacent private facilities serve the manganese alloy works, which began production in 1974. The plant produces standard and low-carbon silicomanganese, an alloy used in steelmaking, placing the port beside a specialised metals manufacturing site.
The smelter also uses slag from Eramet’s Sauda operation as a raw material. Energy recovery forms another part of its process: a thermal power plant generates electricity, while surplus heat is used within the works and supplied to external customers.
