Port of Oran
Oran combines commercial cargo handling with passenger traffic in a harbour protected by breakwaters. Its Mediterranean waterfront serves several trades, including containers, general cargo and bulk commodities, giving the port a mixed role in the city’s transport economy.
Grain handling is supported by a silo and unloading equipment, while warehouses and vehicle areas provide space for other cargo movements. These facilities allow different consignments to pass through the port according to their storage and handling requirements.
A separate maritime passenger station accommodates travellers and their vehicles. Alongside the cargo terminals, it connects Oran with sea transport across the Mediterranean. The commercial harbour should be distinguished from nearby Mers el Kebir, whose waterfront is principally associated with naval installations.
