Port of Victoria
Victoria’s harbour brings passenger transport, recreational boating and working vessels into the same urban waterfront. Its waters extend from the Ogden Point breakwater towards the Selkirk Trestle, linking the outer approaches with the sheltered harbour beside the city centre.
Ferries, tour boats, yachts, tugs and barges all form part of the harbour’s traffic. Seaplanes add another transport function: the water is also used as an airport, making the harbour a meeting place for marine and aviation activity.
The waterfront therefore supports several parts of the local economy, from tourism and passenger connections to commercial marine work. Its central setting and varied users give Victoria a port character shaped as much by everyday urban transport as by visiting vessels.
